Very good everything actually. The employees were handsome and friendly.” Meanwhile, Daniel Milligan appreciates the vibe, calling it “chill and welcoming” with a sense of community that extends beyond the restaurant’s walls.
While the food consistently earns rave reviews, a few patrons have remarked on the need for a more attentive atmosphere, ensuring every guest feels comfortable and respected during their visit—something that Gyro Xpress, known for its community spirit, is attentive to evolving.
In summary, Gyro Xpress is a must-visit for lovers of Mediterranean cuisine looking to indulge in hearty gyros, fresh salads, and flavorful sides in a neighborhood that’s both lively and rich in character. I love this place. The vibe is chill and welcoming, and now by just going there once a month or so I feel like a regular. Extra points for supporting the bookstore down the block. That’s what I call an awesome community member. PS. There always seem to be some handsome men eating there, so bonus!
Honestly, they have really great food. The hummus is really good and so is there chicken. The atmosphere was not great. While it was quiet, for the most part especially considering a Saturday night the day before Folsom Fair, there were patrons inside that were looking at and making reference toward females buttocks.... Personally, didn't feel like much of a safe space considering this is the Castro. Again though, the food is really good and the service was better than expected.
My wife had the Greek Salad with Lamb & Beef Gyro. I had a Lamb & Beef Gyro Wrap with fries. First, the service here is excellent. They move fast, and they're friendly. And the menu prices are very reasonable. My wife loved her Greek Salad; she has tried many of them and says this one is her favorite. That says a lot! My gyro wrap was delicious, but it wasn't a traditional gyro, which I'm an elitist about, but it was a delicious gyro. The meat was perfect, the seasoning was excellent, and they wrapped it up tight, burrito style. The fries were crispy, not greasy, and had a lot of flavors. It was a light, spicy Mediterranean flavor. I've already recommended Gyro Express to some friends living in the area.
The wrap was tasty, but dominated by lettuce, hardly any tomato, and just a tiny plastic cup of yogurt dressing. The garlic fries were OK. What appeared to be a plastic bottle of ketchup on the table, turned out to be hot sauce, which wasn’t what I wanted. Did not learn that until it was too late. Comfortable place to eat in a busy and interesting neighborhood.
